Cappadocia Tickets: Every Official Price and How They Work

The ministry runs one shop for all of this, muze.gov.tr, and it behaves differently from the booking platforms most travellers are used to. The cart asks for an account and nothing else about your plans. There is no visit date and no time slot anywhere in the flow, which surprises people who expect a timed entry system like the big European museums.

You buy, you get a QR code, and the code works at the gate on any day the site is open. Prices for foreign visitors are published in euro only. There is no official lira price for foreigners at any site on this page, and the euro figure printed on your ticket is the till figure, so small differences at the counter come from card conversion, not from the ministry.

The shop also sells lira-priced products, but those are for Turkish citizens holding a TC ID and you will not be asked to buy them. Two order limits apply across the whole shop: a maximum of 10 products per order and a maximum total of 12,000 ₺ per order. For a family this is rarely a problem, but a guide buying for a group may need to split purchases.

The rules at a glance

The MuseumPass Cappadocia e-card costs $74.51 (€65) and runs for 3 days from your first museum entrance, with one entry per site. It covers the Göreme museum valley, the Dark Church, both Derinkuyu and Kaymaklı, the combined Zelve and Paşabağ ticket, and the İhlara Valley including its Selime and Belisırma entrances. Add the list up at full gate prices and the pass overtakes the total once you are buying a fifth distinct ticket, which is the cleanest way to frame the decision.

The museum hill alone never justifies it. The valley at $22.93 (€20) plus the Dark Church at $6.88 (€6) comes to $29.80 (€26), less than half the pass price, and even adding an underground city leaves you well short. Where it wins is the classic two-day circuit: the valley and church, one underground city, Zelve and Paşabağ, and İhlara on a southern run.

One warning repeated from the official product page, the pass is not valid at Night Museuming entrances, so evening entries are always separate cash. Turkish citizens aged 18 and under and 65 and over enter the state sites free by generating a QR code in the Museums of Türkiye app. For foreign families the picture is blunter: a free-age threshold for foreign children is not stated on any official page, so budget as if every child pays full price and treat any counter discretion as a bonus. On the first day of the two religious holidays, museums close to visits until midday under the ministry's own regulation, so plan a valley afternoon or a balloon-morning rest if your dates land there, and check the seasonal picture on best time to visit.

Several genuine ministry sites nearby cost nothing at all: Aşıklı Höyük, Gülşehir Açık Saray, Tatlarin Underground City and Sobessos all appear as free on the official fee list. Start with the panic that does not need to happen. Visitors buy an e-ticket, see no time on it, and assume they missed a slot or bought the wrong day. These tickets are undated.

There is no slot to miss and no date to be wrong about. The QR code is valid any day the site is open, so a late start costs you nothing but the daylight. What can actually go wrong is narrower.

You can buy the wrong site's ticket, because the shop lists many regions and some names look alike, and since no refund policy is published a mistaken purchase is money gone, so read the product title twice. You can arrive with a dead phone battery at the gate, and the QR code on a black screen scans nothing, so screenshot the code as soon as it arrives and keep a second copy in your email. Hours can also shift with the seasons, and the ministry announces changes through its own news channels rather than updating every museum page at once, so a schedule printed anywhere can be a season old.

The state sites do not simply go dark. The Göreme museum valley reopens every evening from 19:00 to 23:00, with the ticket office closing at 22:30, for a separate product priced at $4.10 (₺200). This night entry is not a discount version of the day ticket.

It is its own product, and it lights and stages a different mood through the same rock-cut churches. Passes and the Müzekart are invalid at the night entrance, so even a pass holder pays the night price in full, and Müzekart holders add the ₺200 on top of their card entry by day. Derinkuyu runs its own night session from 19:00 to 21:00, which is a strange and quiet way to walk an underground city.

The practical value for travellers is bigger than novelty. Balloon-day mornings start before dawn and often end with a late breakfast and a nap, which can swallow the whole standard visiting window. On some itineraries the night slot is the realistic museum window, not a bonus.
